Since my husband and I relocated to Fort Worth in June, I have been dying to get to The Modern. It is one of my favorite local spots and a wonderful escape from this Texas heat (not much you can do with a 4 month old baby and a 104 degree day!)

The permanent collection is incredible, and the special exhibition of Lucian Freud: Portraits is worth the trip (showing through October 8). It was a happy moment, strolling through the museum with little Dodson in awe of the sights to see. And we even picked up some great children's toys and books in the museum book shop before heading to Cafe Modern for a cappuccino and some gazing at the reflecting pool. Next stop... The Kimbell.
