FESTIVE | dreaming of a White House Christmas

Two things about me: I love Christmas and I love America. Put those together and I couldn't be happier. I am about to nerd you out with fun facts about White House Christmas's.

President Benjamin Harrison was the first president to have an indoor Christmas tree in 1889. Jacqueline Kennedy began the tradition of selecting an official Christmas tree theme for the White House. She chose "The Nutcracker" theme and borrowed ornaments from her children's tree from the previous year.

From borrowed ornaments to dozens of volunteers from around the country.
Decorating the White House has evolved into quite the production over the past 124 years.

The First Lady greets the official tree and oversees the decorating. I love the traditions our country maintains and how a lady is in charge of making sure the home is beautiful.

The Red Room, Green Room, and State Dining Room are all festive and full of the Christmas spirit.

Every year the White House pastry team along with plumbers, electricians and other various members of the White House, put together a spectacular replica of the White House This year there is more than 150 pounds of gingerbread dough and 250 pounds of white chocolate.

All of the decorating culminates in the Blue Room where the official
White House Christmas has been housed for the past 50 years. This year the theme is "Gather Around."
This theme is brought to life with handmade volunteer crafts and repurposed books.

Merry Christmas!

CELEBRATE | tis the season

It's that time of year. Time to pull out the garland and tinsel, make a big pot of soup, and turn on some Frank Sinatra Christmas tunes. Southern Living built a Christmas Decor idea house in Tennessee, and here are some of my favorite ideas.

I am loving the large ornaments that fill the tree, a wreath in the kitchen, and so many elements from nature. Does it get any more beautiful?

Happy Christmas decorating!

ACCENTS | something about succulents

Happy December!

We are always looking for the perfect finishing touches. Whether it's indoors or outdoors, we love succulents. With a variety of options, there are limitless combinations. Vibrant or muted, draping or tall, they all work together. Natural elements are a must in any space, and succulents are the best way to include them.

Succulents are great year-round. A little secret, fake succulents look REAL. So if you don't have a green thumb, go with faux succulents. They are beautiful and add a green element. Check out your local florist for real succulents or your local craft store for faux succulents. And J. McIntyre Home will have succulents SOON! Use any jar, vase, or pottery and have a great succulent arrangement in your house.
