JMI project | casa escondida

JMI is VERY excited to have recently completed a photo shoot for one of our most FABULOUS residential projects.  This private residence (affectionately called "Casa Escondida" meaning The Hidden House) has blossomed over the past year into a fearless, style-filled design POWER HOUSE.  The home-owner is one of our favorite clients who is full of panache and not afraid of color.  Her passion for interior design has lead each space towards a unique, eclectic, and brilliant aesthetic.  Enjoy this sampling of photos from the still-in-progress Casa Escondida...

marrakesh express

Kappa Tablescapes was a HUGE success!  Thank you to everyone that attended the event, and especially those of you that came to support JMI.  Our table was inevitably entitled The Marrakesh Express due to its eclectic vibe created by a collection of items from various parts of the world.  We brought in our own furniture, topped the table in an antique suzani from Uzbekistan, and created a focal point with as many antique Chinese Hunan jars we could fit!  The wooden horse added height and the vintage ceramic pots from Sante Fe acted as the perfect vessel for our flower arrangements that were placed at each setting.  The heads of the table were accompanied by a garden stool and cherub pot holding a cold bottle of Veuve!  The perfect party setting.

A highlight of the evening was meeting the keynote speaker, Hutton Wilkinson!  Hutton gave a wonderful speech on his professional life with Tony Duquette, and was kind enough to sign both of my treasured Duquette design books.

cinema inspired

'Tis the season for great MOVIES! Going to the theater is a favorite activity of mine, especially during the holidays. True Grit, King's Speech (who doesn't love Mr. Darcy?), and The Fighter are all on my list... but one film that stands out for it's visual drama is Black Swan.

With it's dark theme, striking aesthetic and incredible cast, Black Swan should be an interesting few hours. Regardless of the plot (aren't ballet and thriller mutually exclusive?), I am eager to check it out.

Cinema can be very exciting for a designer to translate into a room. Who hasn't been inspired by classics such as Breakfast at Tiffany's and Pillow Talk? If any of you recall Joan Crawford's bathtub in The
Women, you are right there with me! Today
we'll let Black Swan inspire a dinner party...

when it comes to christmas, i'm with tony.

Famous designer-to-the-stars Tony Duquette made the phrase "more is more" any designer's excuse to go wild. I may not run with it on every project, but when it comes to decorating for Christmas, I'm with Tony.

More is More.

Case in point, this beautiful jewel-toned Christmas tree featured in Traditional Home's holiday edition. Typical red and green ornaments are spiced-up with pops of deep aubergine (a color I can't get enough of this year) and sparkling metallics. Keep piling on the ornaments, tinsel, and ribbon, and trust me... you will transform your tree into something FABULOUS!

Get the jewel-toned look with these fabulous finds from West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Wisteria, Anthropologie, Horchow, and Z Gallerie.
