INSPIRED | hunting for herringbone

Hi there -

What do you think of when you hear the word herringbone? A man's suit? Ralph Lauren? Well, possibly, but it's so much more. The "zigzag" pattern is super popular right now, and it's not going anywhere. In fact, it's showing up everywhere!

Herringbone on the floors.
We are loving wood tiles. They are durable and beautiful.

Herringbone in the fireplace.
Instead of having a boring, unattractive firebox,
dress it up with a beautiful herringbone pattern.

Backsplash
Sleek cabinets, dark floors, and minimal aesthetic creates the perfect
frame for this gorgeous marble backsplash in a herringbone pattern.

More floors
Warm and cozy, these terra-cotta floors are
interesting in this soft, neutral room.

Pillows
We are loving these blue and gray herringbone Surya
pillows we have at the shop.

Is herringbone too trendy? Absolutely not! It's been around for years. It's a classic pattern that can be used in new fresh applications.

Until next time,

GET EDUCATED! | name that style

When it comes to designing a space whether it is a single room or a whole entire house, the common element to consider before beginning any design project is to establish your style of design. Since there are several styles of design it may be difficult to decide what your own unique style is without feeling overwhelmed. Design styles are born out of previous styles and are evolving into distinct types of design as time passes. The below style guides are intended to help you achieve your vision of style and to define what your likes and dislikes are while achieving your dream room or your entire home!

Below are a few styles of design that I enjoyed learning about....enjoy!

Art Deco | classically retro. Combining elements of antique culture with vibes from the 1920s and 1930s.

Arts & Crafts | a period style. A legacy that continues with the ongoing popularity of Mission Style. Crafted with elements of simple construction creating a warm look and feel.

Classical | a very neat style that speaks a state of calm. Inspired by the art and architecture of the Greek & Roman empires. With this style, visual balance is key.

Contemporary | refreshing and clean. A very polished and fashionable look that displays a practical style.

Rustic | unrefined and stands the test of time. A calm and warm look that will envelope you in a cozy embrace.

Southwestern | a lived in style. Influenced by Native American and Spanish design.

Traditional | luxurious and attractive. Emphasizing finely crafted details with beautiful patterned fabrics. Said to be a “top decorating style”.

Have a great week!

DESIGN INSPIRATION | frame it friday

Who doesn’t love displaying their favorite photos? I know I sure do.
I love the personal touch that framed photos and art can add to a space. Creating a gallery wall of your framed favorites can make a bold statement that reflects your personal style.

OBSESSED | the perfect backdrop

Hi there -

After scrolling through a few of my Pinterest boards, I have come to the conclusion that I love white walls. Almost every room on my "aesthetic" board has white walls. Kitchens have white walls, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms - all rooms have white walls. Why white walls? Well, they create the perfect backdrop for any piece of furniture, any piece of art, and any style. White walls are great in ultra contemporary spaces, cozy traditional spaces, and everything in between.

White doesn't have to be cold and stark. It can be warm and cozy.

What better way to show off unique furniture and art then with a white backdrop?

White works for masculine or feminine spaces

This restaurant designed by Kellly Werstler perfectly illustrates how
white walls are a great backdrop for any space.

White cabinets + white backsplash + white ceiling + white dishes = clean, fresh, and beautiful

But, wait! Before you start painting every room in your house a blinding bright white. The trick is to choose a soft off-white.

Some of JMI's favorite Benjamin Moore whites:

White Dove

Maritime White

China White

Remember, paint is the most cost effective way to give your house a makeover. Now start painting!

Until next time,

Sarah T.
