TIPS & TRICKS | raise the roof

Do you have tall ceilings or low ceilings? It doesn't matter, because you should always hang your window treatments approximately 3 inches below your trim or ceiling. The higher you hang the curtain rod, the taller your ceilings will appear. And who doesn't want tall ceilings? Simply put:

very helpful website

Perfect example of tall ceilings that look as grand as they can with tall drapes.

Ignore how short your windows are, and raise the window treatments high.

Drapes are not just for traditional homes, but also look great in contemporary spaces.

I love how they recessed the rod into the ceiling. Using ceiling mounted zip rod allows you to take the drapes as high as possible, and allows for easy sliding.

Simple and neutral is still grand and beautiful.

The simpler the rod, the better. Don't distract from those beautiful drapes.

Just love the whole look.

Also, keep in mind, drapes can be as expensive as you want them to be. Ikea has great panels for an awesome price. Click here for our favorite Ikea panel style.
If you want gorgeous custom drapes, we can help you with that, too. We have tons of fabrics to select from.

Window treatments can completely transform rooms!

OUT-OF-STATE | statement nursery

We love this long-distance client!  Girl is so hands on, that we designed this entire space and she took care of the installation herself... and even sent us her amazing photographs of this darling baby girl nursery.

This colorful, sweet, eclectic nursery is one of our FAVORITE projects here at JMI.  It is the perfect mix of custom touches and retail purchases.  Now we just have to wait to see that cute baby darlin in her fabulous new room!

OBSESSED | new view

What is it about windows with dark metal casing that I absolutely love? Is it the crisp, clean lines? The ode to industrial design? The fact that every view appears to be perfectly framed? Well, it's probably all of the above. If I were building my own house or renovating an old house, these windows would be high on the priority list. Way up there.

HEIGHT  |  floor to ceiling, yes please

ARCHED  |  are you kidding me with these arches? gorgeous

EVERYWHERE  |  walls of windows would be wonderful

WARM WELCOME |  what better way to welcome someone into your home?

OPTIONS  |  maybe you don't want to redo your existing windows, so paint your millwork instead

BEST VIEW  |  who would want to obstruct this view? not me

These windows are contemporarily streamline and traditionally industrial. Which means they go with any style. Sign me up.

Until next time,

DESIGN INSPIRATION | gold rush

You know that gold you have packed away?
Start pulling it out, because gold is all the rage and has made its way back into the limelight.

For the last decade or so, silver was the go-to metallic for most people, but recently the tides have changed and gold has become popular again. No worries, there is no need to get rid
of your silver, just mix and match your pieces to create a polished and well rounded look.
