TREND ALERT | a black and white affair

Black and white is anything but basic. This bold color combination makes quite the statement.

OBSESSED | loving lucite

Have you ever found yourself craving something other than food? I have. I have been drooling over all things lucite. I want to use lucite in every room, with every style, in every form. Tables, chairs, light fixtures... the possibilities are limitless. Lucite adds sophistication, a little sparkle, a modern flair, and, well, it just ups the cool factor in any room. See what I mean...  

This is probably what most people think of when they think of lucite, clean, simple, modern. 

All true. And a great look, but lucite is so much more...

This room leans more traditional, but the lucite adds a breath of fresh air. 

This light fixture is stunning. Please note how lucite really works with any style. The chairs are simple, classic upholstered pieces, and the three full length mirrors are stunning, but add a lucite chandelier, and you've taken this room to the next level. 

One word for this room: Wow. A lucite bed? Are you kidding me? Yes, please.

COLOR OF THE MONTH | a passion for purple

October is by far my favorite month- the weather begins to change, the leaves start to fall, 

and even better the Pantone color of the month is my favorite color, purple. 

Purple is the color of royalty and creativity. 

This rich color can add depth and drama to a room.

DESIGN | mixed media

We've been having fun at JMI designing a variety of projects. Everything from funky modern spaces to traditional with a twist. Every project has it's own unique flare, but I have noticed one distinct common denominator. We like to mix materials! Metals, porcelain, marble, and wood. Mixing finishes helps rooms feel more personal and eclectic and not so catalog page 35. Here are some shots that have inspired us:  

Loving this farmhouse table base topped with marble. The beaded turquoise chandelier is fabulous.  It works well because the rest of the room is more neutral. 

Neutral color scheme is important with the mixing of many materials. 

This dark wood island and metal barstool work great with the white painted cabinets. 

Again, minimal colors, but lots of great texture. 

Love this lucite desk! Metal cabinets, leather chairs, antique rug, and fun art work great together and the lucite desk goes with anything.

 

Don't just mix finishes, mix styles. A traditional tufted settee with this amazing brass tusk glass top table is amazing. Modern art hanging  on paneled walls is smart. Glass, brass, fabric, wood - the perfect equation for a cozy, unique amazing room.

GET THE LOOK | stylish sitting room

I came across this simple and cozy sitting room on the web and was instantly intrigued. I read a bit about the design and learned that the room is in Jessica Alba’s home. I am a huge fan of Jessica’s so I love the room even more. The warm brown walls wrap the room in a blanket of color. A mix of materials- leather, ceramic, and metal add interest and balance to the space. Can't you just imagine wrapping up in a blanket  and reading a book in this cozy sitting room?
