COMPANY BIO | marcie beaty

Marcie Beaty | Marketing & Public Relations

Hello Everyone!  Per my brief introduction from last Monday’s blog, I would like to formally introduce myself to you as Marcie Beaty.  My role at Jessica McIntyre Interiors is in the Marketing & PR department where I assist in the creation and distribution of marketing materials & company PR.  Oh! Did I mention that I am also the “social media” guru?  Although I am new to the world of Interior Design, I am catching up on the lingo and love learning more about design every day.

I grew up in Amarillo, Texas and attended Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona where I majored in Communications/Marketing with a Minor in Public Relations.  I was a member of the women’s college golf team during those four years and still enjoy playing a round or two on the weekends.  I am happy to call Fort Worth my new “home” and enjoy being a newlywed with my husband, Brett.

DESIGN INSPIRATION | mixing patterns

Hi Everyone!

I’m Mallory, the newest member of the JMI team.  As a junior designer, I am so excited to bring you design inspiration every Friday!

Mixing patterns in a room is a great way to create depth and layers of interest. Just like pairing a shirt and tie or skirt and a blouse, you can mix and match patterned furniture, accent pillows, and draperies.

Bringing in bold patterns and colors can give a room personality! If you are uneasy about mixing bold patterns, try taking on patterns in a similar color palette, grays, blues, or even black and white.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | mira vista residence

Well, it's about time.  Getting these amazing photos online has somehow been on the back burner until NOW!  Please enjoy this peek at our amazing Mira Vista residential project here in Fort Worth.

This is not only a favorite project of mine, but also one of my favorite clients.  Her cool factor is off the charts and we had major success from the start regarding the design direction of her home.  Taking inspiration from California, Jonathan Adler, and Kelly Wearstler... we went for a style filled with an eclectic collection of color, graphics, and contrast.

Please check out the JMI website (www.jessicamcintyreinteriors.com) for the complete portfolio, photographs taken by the amazing Jenifer McNeil Baker.

Oh!  Be sure to check us out on Instagram, Twitter, Houzz, Facebook and Pinterest!  JMI is CONNECTED.

DESIGN INSPIRATION | tempting tile

Hi there!

For those who don't know me, I'm Sarah.  An adventure-craving, truth-seeking, design-loving, junior designer with Jessica McIntyre Interiors. For those who do know me, hi again.

Have you ever walked into a store and had a strong desire to take home everything in sight? This probably doesn't happen often, thank goodness. Rarely do you feel like the store was tailored made for you. But, sometimes it DOES happen (you probably feel this way when you walk in J.McIntyre HOME).

It happens to me every time I walk into Ann Sacks, a tile showroom in the Dallas Design District. I'm convinced I need a home with tile in every room. The textures, colors, shapes - they all excite me.

Who is Ann Sacks? Ann Sacks is a designer who was first inspired by a Mexican tile trivet. She started selling Mexican tiles, then grew to creating tiles to work with Kohler fixtures, and now has a vast variety of designs.

Can you afford it? Absolutely! Ann Sacks has a wide range of prices. Everything from $9 a square foot to, well, much higher.

Simple subway tiles in a plethera of colors are just the beginning of what this designer has to offer. Leather, stone, cement, wood, porcelain, terra cotta, circular, rectangular, diamond, hexagonal, classic, modern, eclectic, Italian, Mexican, and so many others. There is something for everyone.

Here are some Ann Sacks tiles that have inspired me...

why not take the pattern up the wall?! wow!

why not have an entire wall of tile in the kitchen?! gorgeous statement!

Why not have something this awesome in your own house?!

Ciao!

GET EDUCATED! | a backwards approach to bookshelf design

As a new addition to Jessica McIntyre Interiors, I would like to introduce myself to you as Marcie Beaty, Public Relations & Marketing. Not only am I a newbie to the JMI Team, I am a newbie to the world of Interior Design! Every Monday I will educate you on something new and exciting I have learned pertaining to Interior Design. With that being said, this brings me to today’s blog entry on displaying books backwards on a bookshelf. Interesting, right?? The first time I visited Jessica McIntyre’s house, I noticed that the books on her bookshelves were turned the opposite way that you and I would normally see them displayed. Below is a picture to better illustrate this.

I have been in a lot of homes with bookshelves and have never once seen books displayed this way and it intrigued me. Naturally, with Jessica being an Interior Designer, I automatically assumed that this was a decorating style that she adopted and I was very curious to find out why exactly this is done. I went straight to “Google” to find out the reason behind this. Oh and by the way, Google is my best friend…seriously…if you want to know ANYTHING about ANYTHING; my motto is to just “Google It!”

My discovery was that it really is a way to incorporate a certain level of design into your home or office! The explanation behind this is that it gives the entire room a clean and balanced feel as well as takes the focal point from the random colors on the book spines to accentuate the wall color/texture, lighting, furniture, or even items displayed on the shelves. There are mixed reviews from people when it comes to this style of décor, as some people prefer to see the titles of their books whether they are avid readers that wish to revisit that special book time and time again or if they personally like the wide array of colors of their book collections. Then there are other people that use books simply to add a decorative look to a room and are not concerned with the above mentioned preferences. To each its own, right?!

How’s that for some Interior Design education and a quick fix to change the entire look and feel of a room? I don’t know about you, but I learn something new everyday! Until next Monday, have a wonderful week and please be sure to share the JMI Blog with your friends and family!

-Marcie B.

These books are displayed with the spine facing towards the wall while achieving a neutral look.
